Stay Encouraged and Hopeful: A Devotional!

Gibbs Gardens, Ballground, GA, April 2025

2 Corinthians 4:8-9 We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.

Life is different today, or is it ? Didn’t generations before us read some of these headlines before? The news can be a constant source of despair, frustration, and fear. But, let us remember that previous generations around the world lived through World War II, one of the most destructive and deadliest of all wars. People were afraid of losing democracy then, too, but good won over evil.

I am confused about what is occurring in my country and around the world, but I will not let it cause me to lose my faith in the belief that the Lord is more powerful than any force of evil. I will not allow the news to crush my spirit, because even though I don’t know what the future holds. I know Who holds the future in His hands, and I am encouraged just by the light of the knowledge of the Lord shines into the darkness of troubling times, casting out fear.

Trust in the Lord, and believe that goodness will prevail in our lives, as individuals and as a country and as a world. There is nothing new under the sun, just new labels to old actions and behaviors. We will survive the seemingly unsurviable, just as countless people of God have done for centuries. Keep praying and believing that prayers are heard and answered. Like the flowers that bloom in spring and the butterflies that come every year, without fail, we, too, will be renewed. This, too, will pass. Really!
