My Driving Isn’t That Bad, Garfield! Is it?

I must disclose that I am not the best of drivers,

Because I waited so late in life to learn to drive.

I don’t know why people tend to honk at me,

Because I am on the highway driving at forty-five.

Just because I am not going the speed limit

Doesn’t seem like a good reason for their harassment.

Didn’t it count that I stayed in my lane all the way?

Not like the early days when I drove with detachment.

I am not on my phone like the younger ones around me.

I am fully paying attention to everything on the road.

Yet, some people passing gave me their one-finger salute,

And I honked at them for the rudeness they showed.

  1. If someone is actually driving 45 on the highway, that could be dangerous just because it’s much slower than most people are driving and they might have to brake suddenly. That’s no excuse for being rude though. People today seem to have much shorter fuses, and it’s a fact that many people are on their phones while they are driving. Scary!
