When I Need Help, I Will Ask! Fandango Story Starter

The older she got, the less sure she was about anything. Her children kept telling her she was wrong about nearly everything, from how she cooked a roast or grilled chicken to the Christmas tree ornaments she wanted to place on the tree. She was tired of the constant surveillance of her activities, just because she seemed fragile and frail. Her children even eavesdropped on her phone conversations! She’s had enough, so she brought them together for a talk to prevent irreparable family breakups.

She told her children that she appreciated their concerns, and when she needed help, she wouldn’t be ashamed to ask for their assistance. Even though she understood that their meddling in her life demonstrated love and caring, she resented their belief that, because she was over age seventy-five, she couldn’t make decisions. She still cooks without burning down the house, and no one has the right to decide which ornaments should be on her tree, mainly since each ornament represented memories that existed before they were born.

Trying to keep her from seeing ornaments she shared with her late husband or reminded her of her deceased son was not helping her, because they brought her joy and peace. She expressed her love for them all, but made it clear that she would not tolerate being treated as a child in her own home. She knew that the need for help was on the horizon, but until then, she wanted to be free to live her life without constant interference.
