Surely the color of our lipstick should be a private matter.
But be careful if your shade to wear is a wonderful bright red.
It’s like a neon sign that announces your most erotic desires,
And the more generous the layer, the more hate you must dread.
The negative talk about women’s bad reputations seems to grow
As they sashay around town looking fabulous in their chosen hue.
Some know by the nasty looks that they are being judged unfairly,
But sail on courageously, no matter how many lies people spew.

Thanks for the inclusion Regina. Red was a colour I rarely wore, makeup or otherwise, though I had a red dress I absolutely loved and I am currently wearing a red tee shirt I bought over 25 years ago!

In my neighborhood, wearing red lipstick was a no-no, especially not to church. I always thought it made no sense, but because I wanted to be a good girl, I didn’t wear makeup at all. Still don’t wear lipstick, but because it makes me look too different from my normal self, for some reason.

I haven’t worn makeup for years, but was never one for it anyway. Lipstick was usually a peachy shimmer, but I never used blusher and only a little shadow on my eyelids.
