Love Isn’t Guided By Biology Alone!

It had never entered Richard’s mind that his son was not his own blood. As he watched Aiden wake from the coma, Richard felt such gratefulness that their prayers had been answered. He was still seriously shaken to discover that the child he loved dearly was not his biological son, as he had thought. His mother was upset, asking him how he could not be observant enough to recognize that the boy looked amazingly like his best friend from high school, Fred.

Even knowing the truth, for his wife had called Fred to give the needed blood platelets to save Aiden’s life, he was glad that the child was going to live to adulthood. Yes, he was angry to have been lied to for ten years, but he was the first person, after the doctor, to hold Aiden in his hands, to give him his first kiss on the forehead, and then to cut the umbilical cord that connected him to his mother. He, Richard, was the one who made the effort every day to read Aiden the stories he enjoyed. He helped Aiden get ready for school each day, ensuring he had a great breakfast. And how he loved to pick Aiden up, elevated above his head, and listen to his laughter, for he trusted that his father would not drop him.

And that is the point! No matter what, he would continue to be Aiden’s father, to love him, and to be there when he needed him. Let others criticize him and call him a fool. Love is more than biology! Love comes from the heart!
