Speaking to My Daughter Every Sunday, No Matter Where I Travel, Keeps Me Connected to Family

Daily writing prompt
Describe a positive thing a family member has done for you.

My youngest daughter and I talk every Sunday. I have always found a way to. speak to her, no matter where my husband and I are traveling. That’s why when we arrived in Portugal last Thursday, and I could not make any international calls, I was heartbroken. My husband forgot to request international roaming from our carrier. We went to Vodafone and bought SIM cards to use in Portugal, but that did not help me in talking with my daughter.

But we learned from one of the employees at Vodafone, who fixed my phone so I could receive texts, that I could use WhatsApp. I thought it was only for conversing with people in groups. So, I called her on Sunday, once I remembered the time difference, and she was relieved to know that we were well and safe. I had managed to send an email to my oldest daughter for her birthday, so that was wonderful.

I need to talk with my daughter each Sunday, because she keeps me up-to-date on the news about all of the other children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It also helps me feel connected to them all, and above all else, loved. Whether I am sick or well, home or abroad, she calls. I always make sure to let her know when we arrive at a destination, and her pleasure in knowing that all is well reminds me of her love for me and mine for her.

If she doesn’t get me, she will email, text, or keep calling until I answer, or she calls my husband’s phone. I tend to turn off my phone during church services, and I often forget to turn the phone back on. It is in knowing that someone cares about me that I am so grateful for the Sunday call.
