Going to the Top of the Mountain Defeated Lifelong Fears

Mount Shasta from the Train, September 19, 2026

Engulfed by fear, I declined to go to the mountaintop,

Even when assured the view up there was amazing.

I chose to stay on the sure foundation of the ground,

All manner of lame excuses I spent time raising.

But then I watched as others entered the cable car,

Hating making the tour guide miss the fabulous view.

So, I corralled by fears, and stepped out in pure faith,

And witnessed a beauty that only a few others knew.

I stood marveling at the magnificence of the mountains,

Remembering that the Earth belongs to my Creator.

Then, I knew that in the war between faith and fears,

My faith would from now on always be the greater.
