I once visited exciting Las Vegas
To give a speech and then to leave.
But escaping the draw of the penny slots
Was more difficult that I would’ve believed.
I asked the fellow playing near me
Why I seemed unable to move away.
He said, “You’ve caught the fever, sugar,
And you may stay here all of your days.”
Then a friend arrived from Jupiter,
Florida, not the planet near the moon,
Saving me from my own foolishness,
And she came not a minute too soon.
