The Enigma of Sun Bathing

Written for Heeding Haiku with Chevrefeuille, June 26, 2019: sun bathing. As a black person, I have always wondered about the efficacy of becoming brown in such a painful way, especially when I see people who look like lobsters afterwards.

Basking in the sun.

Skin turning brown painfully.

Why, is my question?

  1. Thankfully I do not go to the lobster shade when I am in the sun, my Spanish grandparents blessed me with great skin. I don’t understand why it has been drummed into my generation that tan is nice, I am thankful my children’s generation understand the need to be safe in the sun along side having a life and not panicking at the same time.
On that note, I do enjoy cute freckles on my cheeks when I’ve been in the sun, they make me feel good.
