Sitting by the side of the road playing her guitar, nine-year-old Leslie felt the excitement that attends making money of one’s own for the first time. Her daddy, who taught her to play, sat nearby in his lemon-colored wide-brim hat, watching to ensure no gangster behavior on the little boys’ part. As the passersby dropped coins and even dollar bills in her cup, Leslie smiled up at them, so thankful that people enjoyed her music.
