I watch the birds as they come to feed,
And I wonder wherever will they go
When earth has shattered from our trash,
As piles of garbage just grow and grow.
Earth is crying out in bewilderment,
Asking, “How could those humans be so inept?”
Continuing to create objects for one-time use,
Not caring if it contributes to our deaths.
I observe the destruction of nature for oil,
Wondering if at protecting earth we will ever trump.
But even I who know what is at stake if we don’t
Sit guiltily breastfeeding my car at the pumps.
