I saw a rainbow glowing beyond the horizon,
And it stirred in me a hope that I had lost.
It made me realize that sometimes we forget
That freedom and love come at a heavy cost.
It is a payment that everyone must share
Across the generations and space and time.
Even now as I settle in my last season of life,
The willingness to pay the price must be mine.
So, I, too must remember that the pot of gold
At the end of the rainbow is never really free.
A brighter day requires we fight for everyone
To possess life, happiness, and the pursuit of liberty.
