No Longer Tormented By the Past

I can say with much relief

That I am glad to be free

Of the thoughts that hindered

My ability to appreciate and love me.

I was tormented by thoughts

That I had no value and worth.

I couldn’t find peace anywhere,

And my life was bereft of mirth.

But, after I went through the storms

Of anxiety attacks and depression,

I learned that we can’t allow the past

To distract us from our progression.

So, I remind myself every day that

Loving others starts with loving oneself.

And I declare to all who read this poem,

That self-love is the true meaning of wealth.
