Problem after Falling Found: Thank You, Lord for Protection.

I never heard of concussed teeth. I knew that we can experience a concussion in our brain. I don’t watch football like I used to because when a player falls, I tremble. So, I thought the endodontist was wrong about a concussed tooth that died because of the impact of my face plant. All I know is that when I landed, it felt like someone had hit me in the face with a two-by-four. I was so embarrassed with a mouth full of blood. I am especially thankful for the young man who helped Douglas get me up. How I wish I could thank him for his compassion. He kept asking if I was sure I was okay.

My legs were like rubber, and I was so afraid of falling again that I would not let go of his hand for the rest of the vacation. I am still paranoid, but I know the anxiety will go away.

So, now I am grateful that I didn’t have a worse injury. I am thankful that I was able to enjoy a lot of my vacation with family, attending an art show wherein my 13-year-old granddaughter had a piece of art exhibited. I was glad for the meals we shared, although I had to eat soft foods. Admittedly, I ate a hamburger there that was so good, but I paid the cost in pain.

At age 73, I am thankful that I was protected and didn’t break a hip or limb in a foreign country where I didn’t speak the language. I am so grateful that I could come home and receive the treatment I needed, and didn’t enter a hospital far away from home and my children. I have a daughter who will not fly for any reason, never has flown, but she said she would have made an exception and hyperventilated to come and see about me. That’s love, and I am thankful for the love of my children and husband.

Sometimes, it is so easy to ask the Lord why bad events occur, and I had a pity party at first. But when I stopped to think about the worst that could have happened, I was glad to be alive and still on my feet. I can clean my house, although I’m not that motivated to do so. At my age, a broken limb or hip could be fatal, so I praise the Lord for protection and for the young endodontist who knew his craft. I haven’t needed a pain pill today, and his office called today to check on me. So, now the praises go up for the protection. Thanks, Lord!

  1. Good day. It’s great that you are focusing on being grateful despite your pain. After my comment yesterday I thought of something else I wanted to share with you. I have dealt with some issues with my teeth over the years- in fact I am wearing braces again for the second time in my life even now. Two verses from Psalm 34 have encouraged me: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him from them all. (v34) He keepeth all of his bones: not one of them is broken. (35)” Of course most Christians know verse 34 and refer to it often. Regarding verse 35, many see it as David prophesying about Christ on the Cross that He would have no bones broken as the spotless Lamb of God sacrificed for us. I am not arguing against this view but I think there is also another meaning for verse 35. In context, grammatically who is the “he” as in the one who keeps all of his bones? On its face, we have to look at the context the verse is in for “he” is not directly identified in this verse. We have to look to the verse before it and who is the subject of verse 34? The righteous: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous…” Therefore, I don’t believe it would be not be incorrect to say that the “he” in verse 35 can be applied to the righteous. So, we could say, “The righteous keepeth all of his bones: not one of them is broken.” Since teeth are bones as well, we could rightly pray and believe God that all of our teeth, including the one you injured, would not be broken and you will keep all of them as the verse says.” I hope this encourages you. One of my recurring nightmares as a child was dreaming that somehow all of my teeth were shattered and I would wake up and wonder if I had any left. God has been faithful and I believe He will continue to be as I have never lost any teeth, save having my wisdom teeth pulled as a teenager. I am believing for you, just as for myself, that God will completely heal you and give you peace.
