We Are Still Alive, So All is Well.

Wall Art in Coimbra, Portugal, June 5, 2025

Douglas and I planned to move to Portugal, walk the promenade, and sit by the ocean every day this December. Well, that’s not happening this year. But we will start the application process as soon as we are able. If we are blessed, we will visit Portugal in late March or early April to find a city to live in and obtain a year’s rental agreement to add to our application.

Although this year hasn’t been all that we planned, we know that plans are always tentative and that people should have backup plans. On more than one occasion, the saying that God laughs when we make plans has been true. Yet, we are grateful to have survived some terrible events this year. We will make plans for 2026 because neither of us is someone who just goes with whatever happens in life. We believe in being ready, dreaming, and trusting the Lord that some of our plans will come to fruition.

We visited Vienna, Austria, and Budapest, Hungary, as well as Porto, Portugal. What beautiful buildings, museums, and took rides on trains, trams, buses, and Uber. We averaged about 18000-20000 steps a day, and we had a ball, even with my accident. So, although I got hurt and missed some outings, we spent two weeks with our daughter’s family, including three beautiful and smart grandkids. So, plans change, but we remain thankful for what does happen, and are reminded that although life isn’t perfect, we aren’t ready for the alternative. These two seventy-somethings are still loving life, and we adjust when we have to, just glad to continue our remarkable and miraculous love story.
