Staying Sane While Ignoring the Noise!

Daily writing prompt
What’s a conspiracy theory you actually find believable?

Finally, a question I can’t answer. I don’t keep up with conspiracy theories, and in doing so, I keep my mental stability. When I used to listen to every rumor or conspiracy theory that was on Facebook, I tended to worry all the time. It was like having Chicken Little living in your home. For those who may not know him, Chicken Little was an alarmist, always declaring that the sky was falling, upsetting people to no end.

To be assaulted daily with false reports, never knowing which are true or false, keeps one in a constant state of fear and unease. It will drive you insane. One day, I decided I needed to stop listening to the 24-hour stations because, even though they were covering a few stories, it seemed as if there were calamities everywhere, all the time, with no pause in depravity, hatefulness, and violence.

I try to know what is happening in the world, of course, but I refuse to buy into the non-stop news and the comments regarding the stories that Facebook and other social media encourage. I won’t keep looking at the sky to see if it is really falling; instead, I choose to live each day as fully as possible, with the hope that if the sky falls, my soul will be ready to meet its Creator.

So, no conspiracy theories for me, who, as a former college professor, searches for truth and as much empirical proof as possible. I want real news, not suppositions. I think there are enough real calamities in the world with climate change that we don’t need to produce more for sensationalism.
