Finding a Place for My Faith to Call Home

When our church closed at the end of June, I was heartbroken. My husband and I had to find a new place to worship, preferably somewhere we could continue to do God’s work that we felt called to complete. We missed our former church family, but felt we had to go wherever God led us. It isn’t easy to know when we are choosing a place or really hearing the Lord’s voice.

But it seems that God works things out for us, even while we are still in the prior situations. We met a wonderful pastor last year when our former church hosted an educational meeting for our denomination’s conference. She talked with us, and when she learned we were ordained and had been educators, she invited us to take classes toward becoming Lay Servants in the United Methodist Church. As the district administrator, we saw her each time we attended classes and earned certificates of completion. We both liked her a lot.

When she heard our church closed, she prayed for us to find a church where our talents could be used. So, imagine her surprise when we visited her church! She told us about plans for new Discipleship courses that needed to be taught because her church was growing. We were excited to think we’d found where we could be used.

We visited another church, but returned and joined her congregation. I am thankful to have a place for my faith to call home, among a wonderful group of people who love to hug. I am a hugger, and I measure if a church is for me by the willingness of members to be hugged. We are excited to see how the Lord God will use us in this new adventure, and how we can help others to come to know our Savior and trust that they are loved. I have more people to love. Praise be to God!
