While my husband and I were visiting his family in California and Oregon for the last ten days, I noticed one of my blog posts was getting a lot more likes than usual. I thought bots had taken over the site, but I found an email from WordPress that said the following:

I was gobsmacked to find that where I normally get at most twenty likes on a post, I now have 167 on this one post! I have added several new subscribers, and I feel renewed in my commitment to write my thoughts down. I almost stopped writing, believing I didn’t really have a lot to offer to encourage, inspire, and give hope to others, like some of the sites I follow. I allowed the number of likes and comments to define my value and worth as a writer.
Even though I am feeling tired from traveling all day yesterday and getting home at one o’clock in the morning, I wanted to thank WordPress for including my post in Freshly Pressed. Your words touched my heart and made me feel valued after a year of dealing with one illness after another. I read so many posts each day and comment on them, and I have the greatest respect for the over 200 bloggers I follow. Yes, I need to cut back.
I started thinking about the reasons I started this blog so many years, and I decided they are still valid today. So, I hope to start adding more poems, stories, inspirational sayings, and devotionals. I needed a kick in the backside to get going again. I want to honor the faith that so many followers have put in me, including the newest ones. I feel a responsibility to write and a desire to write.
So, thanks, WordPress, for knowing just what this blogger needed to find my way back to something I loved before life seemed to take all fun away. I am still alive and kicking, and that is reason enough to WRITE!
