What’s the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?

My 50th birthday had passed, and I still could not drive a car. Twenty years earlier, a driving instructor told me I was meant to be a passenger. I was so fearful of driving after that conversation that I had to ask family and friends for rides or take the bus, which added hours to every outing. One day, I decided it was time to take the bull by the horns and learn to drive. But people do not want to lend you their car to practice.
So, I got up one morning, called my daughter, and told her to come and take me to a car dealership to buy a new car, a Kia Rio. I wanted a light green one that I had seen. She was stunned and asked if I was serious; when I said yes, she came. I think she still thought I was losing my mind and that I would change my mind. But I didn’t.
In the years since I bought the little red Rio (because it made me feel younger than the green one), I have been free to do things I never dreamed I was capable of achieving and enjoyed going places without restrictions on time. I realized that what seems like a spontaneous decision is really the culmination of the frustrations of hearts and souls ready to prove that we can do what others proclaim us incapable of achieving, if we just take the first step.
Whatever you have wanted to do for a long time, that itch that will not go away, that voice that keeps prodding you to get up and do it: listen to your heart and believe. Don’t let anyone keep you from your destiny! Let go of the fear!
