Answers to the questions for Share Your World, October 7, 2019, from Sparks from a Combustible Mind.
Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat) a good thing, a bad thing or a mixture of both?
I don’t feel qualified to answer, as I am not sure what they were originally meant to be or accomplish. I have a Facebook page and Twitter for the blog, and I have a regular Facebook page, but it is to see pictures of my grandchildren more than anything else. People complain that I don’t post new content, but I don’t feel the need to share my whole life with strangers.
These social media sites seem to fulfill a need to not be rendered invisible, to prove to the world that one is alive and has a life. I guess in that respect, it can be deemed a good thing. I just wish people would not put so much profanity on it, even my “friends”! Also, I get to know what is happening to friends, acquaintances, and family, so that is good, sometimes.
Are you camera shy or do you pose for the camera with confidence?
I do not pose with confidence. Anyone who reads my blog will find lots of pictures of Douglas, but very few of me. I tend to prefer to capture others more than have them capture me. And in pictures with others, it seems as if I am trying to hide myself, as I lower my head and try to be as inconspicuous as possible. I am working on that, though, trying to change and be more confident and aware of my relevance.
Is there anything you’ve kept from younger years for sentimental reasons alone?
Yes, there is a picture of my mother and me, taken when I was about 19 years old (see below. the frame is so rusted). It is the only picture of us together, and I was so glad that she agreed to it. She wasn’t big on taking photos. She was beautiful! It reminds me that she did love me in her own ways.

Do you like to decorate for different holidays?
No, I don’t, to my husband’s sorrow. He would decorate the house for every holiday, even the 4th of July, if I would allow it, but I say only for Christmas, which he goes whole hog on. He grew up in a family where they decorated for all the holidays, except for Easter, as they were not Christians and never discussed Christianity in their home. I find it odd that they decorate for Christmas every year!
Do you feel you’re a strong person character-wise? Also, if you do have a gratitude thought or picture you’d like to share, please feel free! The world can always use more positive vibes!
I do feel that I am strong, and that I can survive just about anything life throws my way. This is my belief because I have survived a lot, and I am a living witness that God will see you through all things, strengthening you to endure. That is my life story!
I am immensely grateful for the women at our new church who want me to teach a Bible study on the Book of Esther. I am so excited at the prospect of teaching again. The book of Esther is a perfect first Bible study for me, as it demonstrates that God is always working in the invisible realm to give His people protection, provision, and His presence. I can’t wait to start next month. I am already writing the study!
Thank you for Sharing Your World! That study sounds AMAZING and I’m betting you do a fabulous job! The photo is priceless. What a lovely reminder of your mom too. 🙂
