Today, I want to give you a snippet of why I am convinced of the reality of God and His Son, Jesus Christ. My faith is built on my belief that God hears and answers prayer. Psalm 66:5 states, "Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he performs for people!" Let... Continue Reading →
Faith Created in an Invisible World
I started dwelling in an invisible world when I was in the fifth grade, to feel normal and to find a place where life was sane. I don't even remember when it began; I woke up one day and realized that I had a space inside of me with a family that consisted of a... Continue Reading →
God’s Weight-Loss Plan for Endurance
The author of Hebrews recommends laying aside all of the weight, including our sins, that encumber us in the race to eternal life. These actions allow us to demonstrate faith in Jesus Christ, whose birth, death, and resurrection is the basis of our faith in God and our belief in a better home to aspire to, one not made by human hands. Stripping off the weight means letting go of our hurts, heartbreaks, and humiliations; our broken dreams, broken hearts, and broken promises; and our fears, failures, and frustrations. This emotional baggage often hinders our faith, and causes us to doubt the One who paid the ultimate price for our redemption.
Don’t Let Me Die Like a Dog in the Street
Those were the words I spoke, as I prayed to God for my life. My then-husband was choking the life out of me, and I somehow knew that, in his anger, he was not aware that he was killing me. There were people around, but no one stepped up to help me, so I started... Continue Reading →
Eagle’s Wings
I was backpacking. It was a long uphill trail. My legs were getting very rubbery. Then I looked up and saw an eagle soaring effortlessly uphill. It simply spread its wings and the updrafts lifted it higher and higher. It didn’t have to do anything. Oh how I wished I had eagle’s wings that day.... Continue Reading →
Confession of a Reformed Worrier
As a child, my mother did not let me learn to swim, skate, or ride a bicycle. She would say that it was too dangerous. I never caught on that my older sister was allowed to learn all of these things, and she was just fine. But, because I believed my mother, I could be... Continue Reading →
Leap in the Dark
My friend texted me that all religion is based on (blind) Faith. I trust one thing, he trusts another, but ultimately it comes down to saying, “The Bible says it, I believe it, that settles it, or some similar statement for other religions.” I wondered about how common this perception that one must pick a... A ChildLike Faith
I always cringe when I see grownups throwing children into the air or swinging them around by their arms. I hold my breath until the children are safely back in their parents' hands or on their own feet. While I am scared that the parents will drop the children and cause major physical injuries, all... Four Voices
I came home to find my wife curled up, having done nothing all day. Instead of giving in to anger, I asked. (It is so hard for one like me to hear that a healthy looking person has a physical problem.) She had another massive headache. We had been to the doctors, with each specialty... Continue Reading →
The Power of Faith – by Douglas
We have amazing power available to us. The power that raised Jesus from the dead is supposed to reside in us. Do you trust God that is is there? There are problems. We artificially fake it, We quench it, and we want it to be an ego boosting power. Once we learn to walk in... Continue Reading →
